When the spring semester started, the last two public schools in the territory joined the Ocean Classroom program — every public school student now gets reef science with their feet wet, from tide pool days in third grade to nursery internships in high school.
The program runs on a simple trade: we bring the boats, gear, and dive instructors; teachers bring the curriculum hours. Around 4,000 students a year will cycle through the water.
Three of our current crew leads came through Ocean Classrooms as students. The pipeline works — it just needed to reach every school.
