Beach patrol volunteers closed out the season with 62 confirmed green turtle nests across the four beaches we monitor — the highest count since the program started keeping records in 2016, and nearly double the ten-year average.

The turtles are voting for the seagrass. Healthier reefs shelter the meadows they feed on, and the two beaches next to our restoration sites accounted for over half the nests.

Hatchling season runs through late fall. If you walk the east end beaches at dawn, give marked nests a wide berth — and report any tracks you see to the crew.
